Korea's Best Dancer Competition
I'm sorry, but this is kind of a large post. We were in Dongdaemun (Dong-Day-Moon) last weekend and were luck enough to catch a taping of what would be best described as "Korea's Best Dancer." On Friday and Saturday nights Dongdaemun is one of the most energetic and vibrant places in all of Seoul. Dongdaemun is one of the largest markets in all of South Korea. It sells all of the latest fashions and you can get them at close to wholesale if your haggling skills are good enough. This attracts a lot of young people with expendible income and consequently, the competition for business is steep. Department stores and collective markets compete by hiring performers to attract customers via stages located conveniently next to front entrances. Here are some examples of what we were lucky enough to see last week. This first post gives you an idea of the setup for one of the many stages.
